Adopting alternatives to the existing fossil fuel-based sources of energy, means of transport, packaging, ensuring end- to-end treatment of waste, and reducing deterioration of air and water quality are some of the major responsibilities that corporates are concerned with. BECA will serve as a platform for meaningful dialogue to identify regulatory challenges and work towards holistic solutions to enable adoption of cleaner technologies.
Amid sweeping regulatory changes that have fundamentally altered the legal obligations of an employer and the technological changes have ushered in various new models of work, ranging from gig work to hybrid work models, BECA will help identifying proactive solutions aligned with government priorities.
With the Government of India preparing for the rollout of its data protection laws and regulations on digital services, the Indian e-commerce industry, which is centred around the date of its customers, BECA will put forth a unified voice to air concerns wherever required.
E-commerce entities may be impacted by various regulatory measures. Initiatives such as the Open Network for Digital Commerce and wider adoption of the Beckn Protocol may threaten to erode any competitive advantage a platform has; FDI and tax related laws may impact operations greatly, while competition regulators may limit the operational freedom of enterprises. BECA shall evolve strategies to cushion members from such changes, and advocate against adverse regulatory developments.
Indian consumers have switched to UPI and credit cards in record numbers post pandemic, and as the economy continues to pick up steam, being part of BECA will be beneficial in case regulators exerts undue pressure on e-commerce entities.
Many Indian businesses - small businesses in particular - face significant entry barriers in accessing foreign markets. E-commerce can help bridge this gap by simplify the export business for such entities. Unlocking this, however, requires a revision of several government norms and processes. BECA shall help identify the requisite changes and engage with appropriate government departments to promote reform. BECA shall also advocate for a holistic E-Commerce Export Policy to bolster e-commerce-enabled exports.
Given the Consumer Protection Rules and the increase in number of consumer complaints, BECA
will also serve as a voice amplifier for firms in case of development of new innovations and best
practices to protect consumers.
E-commerce entities can incur losses at various points of the process, ranging from fraudulent
returns, to thefts at the time of transit or delivery, to defective quality from sellers. The association
shall evolve strategies, including policy interventions, to address these issues.
